What Fittings do I Need for my Gate?

We appreciate that it might be confusing trying to figure out what fittings you need to secure your John Brights gate. Here, we give you all the information you’ll need to purchase the correct fittings for your garden and entrance gate.

We supply a great range of garden gates in Dorset – including Lap, Closeboard, Pilsdon and Palisade gates – of which many are manufactured by our expert carpenters in Bridport. To make selection nice and easy – all of our garden gates use the same fittings, with only the quantity of bolt varying depending on the size of each gate.

What fittings do I need for my Lap gate?

Each Lap gate we sell will require a 14″ T. Hinge and 6″ Ring Latch. If your gate is 3’x3′ or 4’x4′ you will need 1x 4″ Brenton Bolt. All other sizes will require 2x 4″ Brenton Bolts.

What fittings do I need for my Closeboard gate?

All Closeboard garden gates will require a 14″ Strong T. Hinge and 6″ Ring Latch. 3’x3′ and 4’x3′ Closeboard gates require 1x 4″ Brenton Bolt and other sizes will require 2x 4″ Brenton Bolts.

What fittings do I need for my Pilsdon gate?

Our Pilsdon gates require a Curved Hinge Set, 6″ Ring Latch and 2x 4″ Brenton Bolts.

What fittings do I need for my Palisade gate?

We supply three kinds of Palisade gates – Dipped, Tanalised and Pin Grooved. Each size of variation requires a slightly different combination of hanger and fastener. Please see below:

What fittings do I need for my Country or Classic gate?

The 3’x3′ Country and Classic gates require a 14″ T. Hinge, Medium Auto Catch and a 4″ Brenton Bolt. Gates sized 3’x4′ and 3’x5′ requires a 14″ T. Hinge, 6″ Ring Latch and 2x 4″ Brenton Bolts. In addition, Classic garden gates has an option of a 2″ Long Throw Lock.

What fittings do I need for my Rybery garden gate?

The 3’x3′ Rybery gate requires a 14″ T. Hinge, 6″ Ring Latch, a 4″ Brenton Bolt and 2″ Long Throw Lock. Rybery gates sized 3’x4′-3’x6′ require 2x Brenton Bolts.

What fittings do I need for my Orchard or Priory gate?

The Orchard garden gate requires a 14″ T. Hinge, 6″ Ring Latch and 2x Brenton Bolts

What fittings do I need for my Wicket or Charles gate?

Both our Wicket and Charles gates require a 14” T. Hinge and Medium Auto Catch.

Entrance gate fittings at John Brights

If you are looking for fittings for your entrance gates then you have come to the right place. From our county’s iconic Dorset design, to traditional Diamond Braced and Border Door styles, we have a variety of entrance gates in Dorset to suit many types of property.

What fittings do I need for my Diamond Braced or Turned Heel gate?

The Diamond Braced gate requires an 18″ Field Gate Hinge Set, Self Locking Gate Catch, D Striker and M12 x 50 Coach Screws.

What fittings do I need for my Dorset or Eggardon gates?

Our Dorset and Eggardon gates come in a variety of sizes, but luckily each uses the same fittings! You’ll need a 24″ Field Gate Hinge Set, Self Locking Gate Catch, D Striker and M12 x 50 Coach Screws.

What fittings do I need for my Flat or Curved Border Doors gate?

For Flat or Curved Border Doors up to 11×6 in size you’ll need a 24″ Adjustable Hook and Band Set, 10″ Ring Latch, 2.5″ Long Throw Latch and 2x 18″ Garage Door Bolts. If your gate is 12’x4′, 12’x5′ or 12’x6′ you’ll need the same fittings, but we recommend using a 30″ Hook and Band Set, rather than 24″.

Field gate fittings at John Brights

Our Ashcombe, Half Mesh and Cattleyard gates all require the same fittings. For these type of field gates, you’ll need a 13″ Hook to Bolt hanger, Self Locking Gate Catch, 8 1/2″ Hook to Drive and M12x50 Coach Screws.
