Happy ruby wedding anniversary Mr & Mrs Bright

We celebrated a very special occasion recently: John and Bridget Bright’s 40th wedding anniversary. After four years together, my mum and dad married on April 8 1978 at Whitchurch Canonicorum. The reception was held at the Guildhall, Axminster. Dad was 25 back then (Mum 23) and he had a butcher’s shop. On the morning of the wedding, dad still went into work to get the shop window ready and slice all the meat for the reception.

They honeymooned in Wales but it snowed so much they reluctantly decided to come home early rather than risk being marooned.

The secret to their successful marriage? After forty years, they are still each other’s best friend.
